Porto opens door for Benfica after 0-0 draw at Sporting Lisbon

LISBON, Portugal - FC Porto was held to 0-0 at Sporting Lisbon on Saturday, opening the door for Benfica to finally break the stalemate at the top of the Portuguese league standings.

Sporting played the final 12 minutes with 10 men after defender Marcos Rojo received his second booking, but the visitors failed to take advantage.

Benfica is one point behind Porto before Sunday's game at relegation-threatened Beira Mar where a win would give it sole control of the league lead.

Porto stayed unbeaten in league play through 21 rounds, while Sporting remained 30 points behind in 10th place of the 16-team league.

Also, Pacos Ferreira strengthened its hold on third place by beating Setubal 2-0.
