Rapids goalie Pickens sidelined at least 3 months after breaking left forearm
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - The Colorado Rapids will be without goalkeeper Matt Pickens for three to four months after he broke his left forearm in a collision against Real Salt Lake on Saturday.
Pickens had surgery later that night in Salt Lake City before returning to Denver with the Rapids on Sunday.
The 30-year-old Pickens punched the ball away on a corner kick before ramming into Real Salt Lake's Kwame Watson-Siriboe during the fourth minute of the match. Pickens fell to the ground and was helped off the field.
Pickens has set club records for shutouts and wins since joining the team in a trade with Chicago in 2009. He played an integral role in helping the Rapids claim the 2010 MLS Cup.
The Rapids will play the Galaxy in Los Angeles on Saturday.
