Real Madrid defender Marcelo fined ?6,000 for driving without points on license

MADRID - Read Madrid defender Marcelo has been fined €6,000 ($7,800) for driving without a license.

A Spanish court sentenced him on Thursday. Marcelo faced a possible six months of jail time.

The Brazil international was caught for driving with no points on his license when he was pulled over by police on Feb. 12 for failing to heed a yield sign.

Marcelo is not the only Madrid player to be in trouble for breaking driving laws recently.

Last week, France striker Karim Benzema was caught driving at 216 kph (134 mph) in an area where the speed limit is 100 kph (60 mph), while Ghana midfielder Michael Essien was stopped while driving at 140 kph (87 mph).
