Real Madrid defender Pepe injures leg with 2 weeks to go before Champions League final

  • Print

MADRID - With only two weeks to go before the Champions League final, Real Madrid says centre back Pepe has injured his left leg.

Madrid says the 31-year-old Pepe was hurt in Wednesday's 1-1 draw at Valladolid, but did not reveal how long the Portugal international would be sidelined.

Madrid will be playing for a 10th European Cup title when it faces city rival Atletico Madrid in Lisbon on May 24.

Pepe is likely to miss Sunday's Spanish league match at Celta Vigo. Madrid is four points behind Atletico with two games to play.

Pepe's injury puts pressure on Madrid's defence with Raphael Varane's availability uncertain because of a knee problem.
