Rooney's goal voted best ever

LONDON -- Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney's spectacular overhead kick against Manchester City has been voted the greatest goal in the history of the English Premier League.

Rooney's strike, which sealed a 2-1 derby victory for United at Old Trafford in February 2011, was on a shortlist of 10 goals in a poll organized by the Premier League to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

"I grew up watching the Premier League so to be voted the best goal in the history of the Premier League is a great feeling... something I'm very proud of," Rooney said.

Other goals on the shortlist were David Beckham's effort from the halfway line for United against Wimbledon in 1996 -- voted best goal in the first 10 seasons -- and Thierry Henry's flick and volley for Arsenal against United in 2000.
