Sassuolo goalkeeper Pegolo to miss start of Italian season after breaking his leg in training

  • Print

SASSUOLO, Italy - Sassuolo goalkeeper Gianluca Pegolo will miss the start of the Serie A season after breaking his leg in training.

Pegolo underwent surgery on his left leg on Tuesday, a day after suffering the injury.

Sassuolo says the operation was "a perfect success" and that Pegolo will undergo new tests "in around 40 days" to establish his recovery time.

Normal recovery time for similar injuries is 4-7 months.

Pegolo played in all but five of Sassuolo's league matches last season, helping the Serie A minnows avoid relegation.

Sassuolo opens the season with matches against Cagliari, Inter Milan and Sampdoria.
