Schalke injury worries mount: defender Felipe Santana out for weeks with hamstring injury

  • Print

GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany - Schalke's travails continued Thursday with the news that defender Felipe Santana sustained a hamstring injury in the 6-1 Champions League loss to Real Madrid the night before.

Schalke coach Jens Keller says on the club website, "Felipe will be out for several weeks. It's very bitter, of course."

Fellow defender Sead Kolasinac, who was taken off against Madrid with a bruised jaw, attacking midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng (muscular problems) and defensive midfielder Roman Neustaedter (knee problems), are all doubtful for Saturday's Bundesliga game at Bayern Munich.

Keller says he will not take any unnecessary risks and "I hope that the lads are fit on time."

Definitely out are Marco Hoeger and Dennis Aogo (both recovering from cruciate ligament injuries), Jan Kirchhoff (ankle injury), Atsuto Uchida (hamstring) and Christian Clemens (groin injury).
