SWANSEA, Wales - Jonjo Shelvey scored with a stunning volley from the centre circle as Swansea beat Aston Villa 4-1 on Saturday to virtually secure another season in the Premier League.

Shelvey netted an instant goal-of-the-season contender when he downed a clearance by Brad Guzan, spotted the Villa goalkeeper off his line and let fly with a 40-yard volley that looped into the net to give Swansea a 2-1 lead in the 26th minute.

Wilfried Bony had given Swansea the lead in the 10th before Gabriel Agbonlahor equalized for the visitors.

Pablo Hernandez added the third for Swansea in the 73rd before Bony wrapped up the victory with an injury-time penalty.

The win lifts Swansea to 12th with 39 points, eight points clear of the relegation zone. Villa remained in danger on 35 points in 16th.
