Sydney FC hires Austria forward Marc Janko as marquee recruit to replace Del Piero in A-League

SYDNEY - Sydney FC has hired Austria striker Marc Janko as its marquee player for the 2014-15 A-League season to replace Alessandro del Piero, the Juventus great who left the club at the end last season.

The 31-year-old centre forward has played for Salzburg, FC Twente, Porto and most recently for Turkish club Trabzonspor.

Janko has scored 17 goals in 40 international matches for Austria. Del Piero scored 24 goals for Sydney and was the club's leading scorer in both seasons he played.
