Whitecaps sign Adam Clement, picked defender 31st overall in supplemental draft
VANCOUVER - The Vancouver Whitecaps have signed American centre back Adam Clement, pending receipt of his international transfer certificate.
Vancouver selected Clement 31st overall in the 2013 Major League Soccer supplemental draft.
The 22-year-old spent the latter part of pre-season with the Whitecaps and made four starts, including matches against Arizona Sahuaros, College of Charleston, Houston Dynamo and Carolina RailHawks.
Clement played four seasons of NCAA Division I soccer with the Duquesne University Dukes, where the six-foot-four, 195-pound defender registered four goals and six assists in 71 matches.
The Erie, Pa., native received the Atlantic 10 all-conference first team honours for his efforts during his final two seasons with the Dukes, which included three goals and four assists in his senior year.
"Adam impressed us a lot with his quality during the pre-season and we believe he has all the tools to become an important contributor within our club," Whitecaps head coach Martin Rennie said in a statement.
