STUTTGART, Germany - Guillermo Garcia-Lopez defeated Italian qualifier Marco Cecchinato 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 for a second-round meeting with Swiss qualifier Yann Marti at the Mercedes Cup on Wednesday.

The sixth-seeded Spaniard saved eight of the 12 break points he faced before prevailing in just over two hours. Marti defeated compatriot Henri Laaksonen 7-5, 6-4.

Play at the clay-court event, washed out on Tuesday, was delayed until 4:45 p.m. local time due to more rain.

Another Spaniard, Daniel Gimeno-Traver, defeated Germany's Peter Gojowczyk 7-5, 6-3 for a clash against compatriot Feliciano Lopez, the No. 4 seed, who was awarded a first-round bye.

Louk Sorensen defeated Dutchman Igor Sijsling 6-4, 6-1. The Irishman will next face the third-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain.

Benjamin Becker of Germany beat Benoit Paire of France 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 to line up eighth-seeded Federico Delbonis of Argentina.
