    Since Republican presidential candidate John McCain surprised just about everyone, including his own party, last Friday by picking the mostly unknown governor of America's largest, least populated, northernmost state, both the Democrats and the media were at first almost faintful but soon brought around by the sharp smell of scandal. It was alleged that Ms. Palin's youngest child, who has Down Syndrome, was not, in fact, hers but her teenage daughter's -- an outright lie that every media outlet except the CBC, which clung to that fiction for days after it had been disproved, immediately acknowledged.
