Dear Mike,
I have 12 demitasse cups in sterling silver holders. I also have 10 larger ones with two handles, also in silver holders. Each holder is marked Birks Sterling. The china inserts are marked Dresden.
I received them from my grandmother in 1949. She told me the larger ones were used as bouillon cups.
How old are they? What would their value be?

Dear Anonymous,
The bouillon cups might possibly have been used as cream soup bowls, as well. These generally sat on a small plate. Both sets would have been purchased at the same time.
Based on the markings on the base, I would say they would be dated circa the 1920s or 1930s. The set of demitasse cups would be worth $500-$750. The set of bouillon cups would be $600-$900.
