A furniture drive is being held today for Oyate Tipi Cumini Yape, an organization that helps families in poverty and abusive situations. The organization needs dressers, kitchen table sets, pots and pans, blankets and pillows. The furniture can be brought to the Golf Dome parking lot on Wilkes Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Spiring getting 'roasted'

The Arthritis Society Manitoba/Nuvavut division is holding a fundraising celebrity roast of Charlie Spiring, chairman and CEO of Wellington West, on May 30. Tickets for the dinner and silent auction cost $150, while tables of 10 cost $1,350. For more information, call Jennifer McWilliams at 942-4892.

Calling all teddy bears

The Teddy Bears --- and children -- will be going to the 21st annual Teddy Bears' Picnic in Assiniboine Park on Sunday. The event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and supports the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, gives children a chance to get their stuffed friends checked out by doctors, nurses and therapists at the B*A*S*H tent (Bears Ambulatory Surgical Hospital). The foundation will also benefit from the third annual Wal-Mart Walk for Miracles on June 10 in St. Vital Park.

Negev Gala coming

The Jewish National Fund of Canada Prairie region presents the Negev Gala fundraiser on June 12. Arnold Frieman, military veteran, Advance Electronics founder and community leader is this year's honoree. Get moving for the kids

The 11th annual Cruisin' Down the Crescent fundraiser will walk, ride, roll, inline-skate or run on June 10 for the Rehabilitation Centre for Children Foundation, starting at the RCC on Wellington Crescent and going to Assiniboine Park. Walk and camp

The Weekend to End Breast Cancer, benefiting CancerCare Manitoba, is on June 8 to 10. Thousands of participants will walk about 60 kilometres during the Saturday and Sunday of the event and stay in an overnight campsite complete with tents and hot showers. Riding to fight cancer

The sixth annual motorcycle Breast Cancer Pledge Ride is on June 10. Motorcyclists register at the Pony Corral, Pier 7, at 1700 Pembina Hwy. between 10 a.m. and noon, then go on a sothern Manitoba run. Proceeds go to CancerCare Manitoba.
