Manitoba's tourism industry is gaining some influential allies in its efforts to attract more tourists to the province.
More than 110 Canadian and international journalists have descended on Winnipeg this week for the Canadian Tourism Commission's 11th annual travel media show called GoMedia.
The five day event is designed to generate media exposure for Canada's tourism industry. Holding it in Winnipeg for the first time has enabled local tourism industry groups to shine a spotlight on some of the province's key tourist attractions in hopes of impressing the visiting journalists. And it's working.
Quentin Long, a travel writer from Australia said he was impressed with the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and the Journey to Churchill exhibit at the Assiniboine Park Zoo.
"I think the whole offering that Winnipeg is putting together is very compelling," he added.
The 300 event partipants are also expected to spend an estimated $307,000 on hotels, meals, shopping and other things while here.
