Rhode Island seeks volunteers for Sandy cleanup, repairs
WESTERLY, R.I. - Superstorm Sandy may be a distant memory for many Rhode Islanders, but a statewide service organization is asking for volunteers to help clean up and repair Westerly's Misquamicut (mis-KWA'-mih-kut) beach area before the start of tourism season.
The group Serve Rhode Island says volunteers are needed to clear debris, repair buildings and restore beaches over the next several weeks. The volunteer and service organization says it especially needs people with skills in construction and demolition to clean up Winnapaug Pond.
More than 1,000 people have volunteered so far to help Misquamicut area businesses and residents so far.
Those who wish to volunteer may do so through Serve Rhode Island's website, www.serverhodeisland.org .
