Take the worry, and germs, out of next trip
Nano-UV disinfection light scanner
Dream Sack
Toothbrush sanitizer (BORIS MINKEVICH)
Jet Heads disposable airline pillowcases
And it doesn’t help that your hands pick up 85 per cent of these germs, not to mention what you might contract lurking in your hotel room. Will these fellow travellers make you sick? That depends partly on luck, but there are several travel products you can try to help lessen the worry.
Nano-UV disinfection light scanner
This convenient cell phone-size germ eliminating light lets you easily disinfect virtually any type of surface with a quick 10-second sweep. The UV disinfection scanner states that it safely kills 99.99 per cent of bacteria and viruses such as the common cold, flu bugs, E. coli, Asian bird flu, and SARS viruses. Unfortunately, I'm not a scientist so I can't tell you if the germs are being eliminated, but what a great idea if they are. Two AAA batteries are included.
Price: $79 at www.magellans.com or 1-800-962-4943.
Dream Sack
Squeamish about hotel bed sheets? Then bring your own. At 232 centimetres long and 85 cm wide, the Dream sack allows plenty of space to spread out in a sea of silk, even providing a pocket for a pillow. It's naturally breathable, so it'll keep you cool and dry in the summer and warm when the temperature drops. Best of all, it's untouched by anyone but you. The bag fits into a small pouch and weighs less than half a pound. The 100-per-cent silk is easily washed by hand or on a machine's gentle cycle, and air-dries quickly, making it a perfect choice for on-the-go travellers.
Price: $59 at www.www.magellans.com or 1-800-962-4943 The 170th reader to email me gets it for free.
Toothbrush sanitizer
Wherever you go, whether you're on a business trip or taking that well-earned vacation, germs and bacteria are hitching a ride too -- on your toothbrush. It's a nasty thought but there is a way to combat the problem. Made by Austin house, the toothbrush sanitizer kills germs and micro-organisms by destroying the DNA in bacteria, and uses germicidal UV light technology. All it takes is two AAA batteries. I like the coffin-like travel case and the idea behind it, but does it really work? Again, only a lab rat would know for sure.
Price: $22, available at Journeys Travel and Leisure SuperCentre.
Jet Heads disposable airline pillowcases
Did you know that some bacteria like MRSA can live up to 90 days on fabric? Next time you fly, play it safe and slip a soft and comfortable, disposable pillowcase over your airplane pillow and rest easy knowing you and your children aren't sharing another passenger's germs. These days, it's difficult to find a pillow on a plane, let alone a clean one, and since many airlines don't change their pillowcases between each flight, you might want to carry your own, or at least pack a few Jet Heads in your carry on.
Price: $5.95 for two pillowcases at www.travel-with-me.com.

Congratulations to last week's winner, Calla, of Clifford Drive, who gets the kids' travel products.
