The magical environment of the cloud forest of Monteverde enchants nature lovers, bird watchers and adventure seekers.
This secluded part of Costa Rica boasts a variety of exciting nature encounters and cosy mountain lodges.
The rainforest Sky Walk/Sky Trek offers dramatic views from the top of the forest canopy. The more active visitor can select day and night hikes, horseback riding or ATV tours. Nature lovers adore the butterfly farms and orchid gardens.
Other options include the famous Monteverde Cheese Factory founded by Quakers, a serpentarium dedicated to snakes and reptiles, and a tour of the coffee growing and processing industry on the Monteverde Coffee Tour.
The Arenal Volcano rises up from the flat, rich rainforests of San Carlos. With its rolling hills, cattle farms, rainforest, and Costa Rica's largest lake, the area boasts a wealth of bio-diversity.
The Arenal Volcano/Fortuna area is known as the adventure capital of Costa Rica, with opportunities for whitewater rafting, kayaking and caving. The Sarapiqui River has Class III and IV rapids, and Arenal Lake is an ideal spot for kayaking. The Venado Caves is for avid adventurers who like to climb walls, slide through mud-holes and hike underground rivers.
One of Costa Rica's top adventure activities here is "canyoning," which involves rappelling down five walls, including four waterfalls, inside the rainforest.
At Arenal National Park, travelers learn about the volcano. The Caño Negro Wildlife Reserve is also home to sloths, three types of monkeys, caimans, lizards, bats and an abundance of birds.
Tortuguero National Park lies on the northeastern Caribbean coast, where the primary form of transportation is via a system of waterways and lagoons crisscrossing the park.
This is one of the principal nesting grounds for the endangered green sea turtle. Boat tours and kayaking along the canals and rainforest hikes in the Caribbean rainforest yield opportunities for wildlife viewing and bird watching.
This Costa Rica journey ends in the capital city of San Jose, home to a quarter of its population as well as interesting museums and architecture.
This Costa Rica adventure includes accommodations as per itinerary, breakfast daily, private transfers, one tour each in Monteverde region, the Arenal region and San Jose region, and much more.
