TORONTO - Toronto artist Arnaud Maggs has won the $50,000 Scotiabank Photography Award.
The prize was handed out at a ceremony Wednesday night at Toronto's Design Exchange.
A collection of Maggs' work over the last four decades opened last week at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa.
Prize organizers say Maggs is known for his "multiple-grid, serial photographs of faces and collections, systems and historical ephemera."
He began his artistic career in the mid-1970s after successful stints as a graphic designer and commercial and fashion photographer.
"Arnaud Maggs: Identification" runs at the National Gallery until Sept. 16.
