Second Texas shooting suspect charged
HOUSTON -- Officials say charges have been filed against a second suspect in a shooting at a Texas college that left three people wounded.
The Harris County sheriff's office said a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon was filed Thursday against the second suspect.
The shooting at the Houston-area community college prompted new calls in Texas for allowing concealed handgun licence holders to carry their weapons into colleges.
Officials have said at least 10 shots were fired Tuesday during a dispute between two men at Lone Star College-North Harris.
Another man has been arrested and charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Top Nazi hunters in Italy, Germany, U.S.
BERLIN -- The Simon Wiesenthal Center ranks Germany, Italy and the U.S. as the most successful at investigating and prosecuting Nazi war crimes over the past year.
In its annual report covering April 1, 2011 to March 31, 2012, released Thursday, the centre said there was a fivefold increase in convictions from its previous report, from two to 10. Nine of those convictions were in Italy and one was in Germany.
As of April 1, 2012, the centre's Jerusalem office said at least 1,138 investigations, including preliminary inquiries, were being carried out in 10 countries, with the largest number in Germany at 528, Poland at 458, and 74 in the U.S.
Failing grades were given to 11 of 42 countries surveyed, including Canada, Australia, Austria, Estonia and Ukraine, for their lack of indictments or convictions.
Rural Ireland considers drunk-driving OK
DUBLIN, Ireland -- A licence to drive drunk? Some small-town politicians think it's just the tonic for rural Ireland.
Councilmen in Kerry, southwest Ireland, have passed a motion this week asking the government to create a permit that would allow isolated farmers the ability to drink a few pints and then return home in their car, or on their tractor, without fear of being busted.
Its backers say the measure is needed to combat an epidemic of boredom and depression on farms ever since Ireland imposed tough new blood-alcohol limits on drivers in 2011.
Justice Minister Alan Shatter shot down the proposal during a speech in parliament Thursday as "grossly irresponsible."
