A vacant Alfred Avenue house is set to be demolished after the second fire there in less than six months.
Firefighters were sent to the one-and-a-half storey house on Alfred’s 600 block at 12:48 a.m. Tuesday after police driving through the area spotted the blaze.
Crews fought the fire from outside and used an aerial ladder truck to spray water on the flames. Crews were still dealing with the fire after 8 a.m., and roads were closed in the area.
The building sustained significant smoke, fire and water damage, and an emergency demolition was being arranged, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said.
People were living in the house when the last fire started there early on May 30. One person was transported to hospital in unstable condition after that fire, and multiple people were assessed by paramedics on scene. A cat was found dead inside the house.
Tuesday’s fire was the second crews battled on Alfred Avenue this week. Crews were sent to a vacant house on the 400 block late Sunday night after it caught fire for the third time in four months.
