An evacuated northern Manitoba community that was threatened by wildfire has been deemed safe for residents to return this weekend.
Residents of Cranberry Portage, about 600 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg, were told today they can begin returning at 8 a.m. Saturday, two weeks after a mandatory evacuation order was issued.
“Hydro and telephone are functioning as normal, and water/sewer testing has been done to ensure the safety of water for consumption and use,” Lori Forbes, the Rural Municipality of Kelsey’s emergency co-ordinator, said in a statement.
