WINNIPEG — A woman who took money from a teenage girl selling sex will not do further time behind bars, a judge ruled this morning.

Peggy Doreen Melquist received a six-month sentence for living off the avails of prostitution and running a common bawdy house.

She will not spend further time in jail because of the three months she did in custody after she was charged.

Court of Queen’s Bench Judge Robert Dewar accepted a joint recommendation from Crown prosecutor Mark Kantor and defence counsel Gerri Wiebe.

The judge acknowledged the Crown had a difficult case after the teenage girl involved in the matter died.

The girl’s mother addressed the court, said she was angry with Melquist and stormed out.
