Today was the memorial service for the lovely Kendra McBain. She passed away just before Christmas after a 3 year battle with cancer.
She was awesome. She was loved. She was the driving force behind Kendra’s Walk for Kids, which I attended this past spring and raised $160,000 for a new room specifically for teens at Cancer Care Manitoba.
I met Kendra a few years ago when I interviewed her for our annual Radiothon in support of the Children’s Hospital Foundation. I was smitten. I was blown away. I was captivated. When I heard of her passing, I was telling someone how she was just that: captivating. During today’s memorial service, during which friends and family spoke beautifully, her Aunt mentioned that she had captivated certain people, myself included. Captivate: To attract and hold by charm, beauty, or excellence. In Kendra’s case it was all of the above. If I had only met her the one time, I would have forever remembered her. There are only a certain number of people made that way. The kind of people that from the moment you meet, have you convinced they are special and can do and be anything they wish. Kendra was a star. She will be missed by many. Sleep well.
