Let Facebook cheater face the music

DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: I woke up in the middle of the night and found my boyfriend on Facebook with someone. I was facing his back and lifted myself very quickly and looked over his shoulder. In a brief moment I knew he was talking to a woman and started screaming at him. The fight was even more horrible because we were both naked in bed.

I jumped up, threw on my clothes and then threw his clothes out the front door, into the snow. Then I told him to get the hell out of my house.

Now we’re on the outs, and he’s calling me, claiming the woman was chasing him and didn’t mean anything to him. Why am I even taking his calls?

Now we’re on the outs, and he’s calling me, claiming the woman was chasing him and didn’t mean anything to him. Why am I even taking his calls?

— Mad At Myself, Charleswood

Dear Mad: No one forced him to cheat on you. It was his decision, and the cheating was done.

You can still hope the Facebook "friend" and your lover are not meeting each other in person, but how lame is that? If you’re making love with him and in a relationship, you’re trusting he’s exclusive.

So why are you taking his calls? Probably because you like hearing his grovelling and apologizing, and the way he goes on about his great love for you — and how much he wants you back. Or it could be you’re afraid to be alone again. You can’t imagine who your next boyfriend will be, or how many months it will be until he shows up.

If I could tell you that your next and best boyfriend would come into your life soon after you stopped talking to Mr. Waste-Of-Time, how much longer would you listen to his nonsense?

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: I met a guy on a bench in the mall where we both work, while eating our lunches. He asked me out, impulsively. The only thing he said he didn’t want to do was go to a movie, because he works in a movie theatre. Too bad. I love movies. I could watch 20 a week.

I asked what he wanted to do and he said "something outside, like skating or snowshoeing."

Not happening! I hate the cold. I couldn’t think of anything else but movies. We ended up distancing ourselves from each other after two pizza dates. I could tell he was bored with the conversation. Is there something wrong with me? It didn’t even last three weeks.

— Loser at Dating, River Heights

Dear Loser at Dating: You may both be nice people with good hearts, but let’s face it, you’re definitely dull daters! You had no ideas except the movies (his workplace) and then you vetoed his two outdoor ideas.

You should have been able to come up with a half-dozen other ideas for things to do together.

Winnipeg has not been so alive in decades, especially with music nightly in almost every available venue. Then there’s comedy, theatre, indoor and outdoor sports, live entertainment in restaurants and bars, coffee houses and fancy bakeries. If you want to get onstage, or clap for people who do, there are big and small open mics for singers and musicians, and karaoke bars six nights a week.

Making yourself a fun person to hang with will attract other adventurous people who’ll become new and exciting friends. Among them, you’ll find a real romance and lots of interests to explore together.

So pick up a desk calendar with giant squares you can write in. Then comb the newspaper, tune into different radio stations and find all kinds of free and ticketed events to fill up that calendar.

Even major concert events are affordable in the nosebleed sections. Get going, girlfriend. Anyone can do this!
