Career concerns drove Radcliffe to alcohol abuse
DANIEL Radcliffe, dry since 2010, says he was a heavy drinker because of career worries: Would he always be just Harry Potter?
The problem, he told the Daily Mirror, "...is a pressure of living with the thought, 'Oh, what if all these people are saying I am not going to have a career? What if they are all going to be right and will be laughing, and I will be consigned to a bunch of where-are-they-now lists?' "
Radcliffe, 24, is pretty much beyond that anxiety now, you'd think, after doing several movies and a lot of Broadway work. "People don't shout 'Harry Potter' at me now," he told the Mirror. "They tend to know my name, which is lovely."
Bieber, Chris Brown reunite
THEY deserve each other: Chris Brown and Justin Bieber are recording together, In Touch Weekly reports.
Bieber posted a photo online of himself and Brown with the caption "Studio, me and CB did 1 for the fans."
I reckon that first word actually means "This picture was taken in a recording studio, where..."
The "me and CB" part means he's barely literate.
The masochists among you gentle readers will remember these two desperadoes worked together on a ditty called Next to You that appeared on a 2011 Brown album.
Obama's daughter goes Hollywood
HEY kids! Trying to get a summer job? Here's a tip: It helps if your dad knows Steven Spielberg.
Malia Obama, U.S. President Barack Obama's older daughter, is working as a production assistant on the set of Extant, an upcoming CBS sci-fi series Spielberg is producing. Malia turned up during some re-shoots; the series debuts next month. Thewrap.com had the story.
Halle Berry stars as an astronaut who spends 13 months alone in space and comes back pregnant.
Grumpy Cat saves Christmas
NOTHING is ever as powerful as an idea whose time has come. So come December there will be no resisting the made-for-TV movie Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever.
Future generations will surely recognize this production as the ultimate distillation, the very apex, of the popular culture of our era.
Lifetime, the cable outlet to blame for this thing, is currently recruiting a voice actor for Grumpy Cat's part, says the Hollywood Reporter, which had this giant scoop.
There'll be a cranky cat in a pet store, see, and a sweet little girl who... well, I'd hate to spoil the surprise.
Menzel makes the best of malfunction
SINGER Idina Menzel, performing at Radio City Music Hall in New York the other night, had a wardrobe malfunction when her leather-look bra began to slip upward.
A female crew member came out to help her, and the Frozen star got herself back together. Before resuming her singing, she said this: "Well, (bad word) it; they're real!"
Martin, Paltrow may pair off again
CONSCIOUS cluelessness? Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, who announced their split in March are still sharing their home, and reconciliation is imminent, E! News says.
Could it be all the mockery they took for babbling about "conscious uncoupling" was for nothing?
"Chris hasn't moved out of their Brentwood house yet," Don't Usemyname told the website. "They are both still living there and spending weekends together at their new house in Malibu."
Family fights healthy: Dern
LAURA Dern's parents broke up when she was two. Now the actress tells Stella, the magazine of England's Telegraph newspaper, it's healthy for couples to argue in front of their children.
"I don't think kids expect the fairy tale anymore... in our parents' generation you hid everything. A therapist would now tell you that it's good to fight in front of them as long as they can see the resolution.
"This is being human -- you get angry, you get hurt, you yell and say things you don't mean -- and then you circle back and you're accountable. Otherwise kids hit adulthood and they don't know how to deal with conflict."
Dern has been married to musician Ben Harper for 14 years. They have two preteens.
