The local sketch-comedy troupe Hot Thespian Action has been nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award in the Best Sketch Troupe category, where this year’s field also includes Toronto’s legendary The Second City company.
Hot Thespian Action — composed of writer/performers Shannon Guile, Jane Testar, Jacqueline Loewen, Garth Merkeley and Ryan Miller — has performed sold-out shows at the last two editions of the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, and this year appeared in a taped-for-TV gala alongside such Canadian comedy legends as Andrea Martin, Cathy Jones and Seán Cullen.
HTA is also currently developing a TV-series pilot, and will be contributing a “best of” sketch show called A Show of Hands to this summer’s Winnipeg Fringe Festival.
The 2011 Canadian Comedy Awards will be handed out in Toronto in mid-October.
