The Winnipeg Arts Council handed out its annual arts awards Friday afternoon at the Mayor’s Luncheon for the Arts at the Fairmont Hotel.

Here is a list of the winners:

Volunteer Impact Award: (tie) Nicola Schaefer, nominated by the Agassiz Chamber Music Festival; and Sylvia Flam, nominated by Shakespeare in the Ruins and Prairie Theatre Exchange. The award is a $1,000.00 cash donation on behalf of the winner to the Winnipeg arts organization of his or her choice, and a work of art by a Winnipeg artist.

RBC On the Rise award: Lara Ciekiewicz, a soprano nominated by Manitoba Opera. This $2,500 award recognizes the demonstrated promise of an emerging professional artist.

Making a Mark Award: KC Adams, a visual artist nominated by Urban Shaman: Contemporary Aboriginal Art. The $2,500 award applauds an established professional artist who is receiving critical recognition for excellence.

Investors Group Making a Difference Award: Patricia Bovey, a museologist, curator and art historian nominated by Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art. This $2,500 award celebrates the contribution of an artist or arts administrator to the growth and development of the arts in Winnipeg.

Arts Champion Award: Graham C. Lount Family Foundation, which promotes healthy development and personal growth opportunities of children and youth. Nominated by Martha Street Studio. The Arts Champion award honours an individual or business patron of the arts. The prize is a work of art by a Winnipeg artist.
