Some of Winnipeg's and Canada's heavy hitters in Hollywood gathered Thursday night in a posh Beverly Hills hotel for a benefit for the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

Winnipeg-born comedian/director David Steinberg co-hosted the Peninsula Beverly Hills hotel event with Canadian actress Catherine O'Hara and Kweku Mandela, the grandson of former South African president Nelson Mandela.

Singer Burton Cummings was a special guest performer for the invitation-only event.

Among those who were expected to attend were actress Nia Vardalos, Irish actor Colin Farrell and museum architect Antoine Predock.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is scheduled to open on Sept. 20.
