Keri Latimer

Singer-songwriter, Nathan Music Co.

"I'm nearing the end of a book of memoirs written by musician Rodney Crowell called Chinaberry Sidewalks. So far, it hasn't been about his musical career but rather his tumultuous upbringing as an only child raised in a dirt-poor neighbourhood in Texas by a heavy-drinking, hard-living father and a God-loving epileptic mother. There's tenderness and insightfulness in the telling of these stories that are both heart-wrenching and hilarious as he contemplates the complexities his parents' lifelong love for each other, but which often ended up with a bottle over someone's head. Throughout the novel, there's a baffling sense of loyalty and forgiveness that we can all relate to in our own crazy families."
