Actor punted over kick
APPARENTLY Thomas Gibson skipped acting school the day they taught you shouldn’t kick the producer, or even a writer.
The actor was initially suspended from the CBS drama Criminal Minds after reportedly committing that offence. Deadline.com reported last week a writer-producer was the victim; TMZ just mentioned a writer.
The producers also cancelled plans to have Gibson, who plays Aaron Hotchner, direct an episode this upcoming season, the show’s 12th. He has directed six episodes.
"Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from Criminal Minds," ABC Studios and CBS TV Studios said in a statement Friday. "Creative details for how the character’s exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date."
Gibson, 54, also issued a statement.
"I love Criminal Minds and have put my heart and soul into it for the last 12 years. I had hoped to see it through to the end, but that won’t be possible now," the actor said. "I would just like to say thank you to the writers, producers, actors, our amazing crew, and, most importantly, the best fans that a show could ever hope to have."
Pop star has teen pal
LIONEL Richie’s daughter Sofia is "spending a lot of time" with Justin Bieber, the New York Daily News reported.
On Wednesday, the two caught a private jet to Japan together, the tabloid reported. He’s got a couple of gigs there this weekend.
But somebody told Us Weekly they’re just good friends — which, I suppose, could possibly even be true. Bieber was, after all, just photographed wandering around nude on a Hawaiian beach with some model.
Richie has been a model for Madonna’s clothing line, Material Girl. She turns 18 late this month. Bieber is 22.
Rapper riled over theft
IF you run into some guy who tries to sell you 20 surfboards cheap, Mike D of the Beastie Boys (a.k.a. Michael Diamond) knows what you should do.
Somebody stole his collection last weekend, and he’s cross about it.
In an Instagram post, he urged anyone who comes across a stolen item to, "A: grab the board B: use a cable to bound that person’s hands together C: contact me and we will handle the rest. Serious."
He meant "bind," not "bound," but otherwise that’s clear enough.
It seems he got into the sport fairly recently, but he’s enthusiastic about it. He’s 50.
He’s no tax wizard
RUPERT Grint made about 24 million pounds ($40.3 million) from playing Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies. But he just lost nearly $1.7 million of that in British tax court, the Guardian reports.
Acting on the advice of his accountants, Grint, 27, tried some accounting stunt — booking 20 months of income in one year, or something — to reduce his income tax liability. Now a tax tribunal judge has told him, essentially, "Nice try, but pay up."
There’s no allegation of anything fraudulent. Grint says he knows nothing about this stuff and trusted his advisers, who were apparently trying their luck with this approach.
Singer pursued for Super Bowl
NOTHING says "Super Bowl" as clearly as a British emo singer with stage fright, so the NFL is trying to get Adele to be the halftime entertainment at the big game in Houston Feb. 5, British tabloid the Sun claims.
Can you see it? Fireworks, flypast, light show, flags, dancers in spandex, 4.3 zillion decibels, dancing sharks — it’s all just so Adele.
"American football bosses are desperately trying" to sign her, the Sun says. But the tabloid’s unnamed NFL source says the singer, known for pre-show jitters, is not eager.
"It’s Adele’s nerves that are the issue — it hasn’t been an easy sell." But planners "are doing absolutely everything they can to try to persuade her" because "there is nobody bigger in the world than Adele right now."
She’s 28. The Super Bowl is 50.
Swift’s brother in Brosnan film
WHO among us will be surprised to learn Taylor Swift’s little brother is getting into show biz? And at a high level?
Say hello to Austin Swift, who’s got a role in I.T., the new Pierce Brosnan thriller.
OK, so Brosnan isn’t actually all that high a level. But hey, who’s the headliner in your latest Hollywood picture?
The movie stars Australia’s James Frecheville, whose computer-wizard character gets in a fight with rich charming businessman Brosnan, see? And Brosnan has a pretty daughter who… well, you could write the rest of this thing yourself, couldn’t you?
Swift, a Notre Dame graduate, plays a character named Lance, Billboard reports. This seems to be his biggest acting gig so far. The movie opens next month.
Austin Swift is 24. Brosnan is 107. (OK, Brosnan is actually only 63.)
No doubt they’re getting hitched
SINGERS Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, who were both on NBC’s The Voice, will indeed get married, TMZ.com reports.
These two became a rebound couple after Stefani’s abrupt split with English rocker Gavin Rossdale of Bush last summer, which came just after Shelton’s divorce from Miranda Lambert.
"They almost rescued each other," a nameless insider told People magazine.
Now they’ve hired a wedding planner, TMZ reports, although nobody has announced anything.
Shelton, who remains on The Voice, is 40. Stefani is 46.
