Diversity (Michelle Grégoire Productions)
WINNIPEG pianist and composer Michelle Grégoire has done it again. Her second CD as a leader is a delightful collection of compositions — most of them her own — played by a great quintet: Grégoire and Toronto musicians trumpeter Kevin Turcotte, tenor saxophonist Kirk MacDonald, bassist Jim Vivian and drummer Ted Warren.
Diversity proves she is a complete package. Grégoire is a skilled pianist, especially on her tune Streak, but also on the Cole Porter classic Love For Sale.
Grégoire is a skilled composer and each of her eight tunes here are engaging, thought-provoking and entertaining, especially the title track and her three-part Gratitude Suite.
Grégoire is a skilled bandleader. She has chosen some of the country’s best jazz players to record and perform with her; players who understand and complement her music. ‘Ö’Ö’Ö’Ö1/2
