Don Amero
WINNIPEG singer-songwriter Don Amero and teenage country chanteuse Ali Fontaine lead the way among Manitoba artists with five nominations each for Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards (APCMA).
Country newcomer Jade Turner, bluesman Billy Joe Green, francophone artist Marijos©e and singer-songwriter Ren©e Lamoureux followed with two nods each.
The nominees were announced at a news conference Thursday at Air Canada Park.
The winners will be revealed at the awards gala show at the MTS Centre Aug. 18 as part of the eighth annual Manito Ahbee: A Festival for All Nations. The event, which takes place Aug. 16-21 in Winnipeg, also includes a powwow, a trade fair and an educational forum.
Local music legend Ray St. Germain, known to many as "Winnipeg's Elvis," will be honoured this year with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the APCMA gala.
