IT doesn't really matter who is in Evanescence as long as Amy Lee is leading the group.
The band that backs Lee on their new self-titled album isn't the exact same lineup that was on 2006's The Open Door, but it doesn't matter since this is Lee's show: she is the voice, the face, the main songwriter and the only remaining original member of the quintet.
After some recording delays, including a producer and band member switch, the self-titled album picks up exactly where Evanescence left off five years ago, mixing gothic nu-metal and hard rock with dramatic orchestration that makes everything sound big and alive, even when Lee is feeling less than thrilled with the situation (Sick, My Heart is Broken, Erase This). With so many extra bells and whistles, despair has never sounded so epic. 'Ö'Ö'Ö1/2
