The Anishinaabe artist Norval Morrisseau (1931-2007) emerged onto the Canadian art scene in the 1960s. Androgyny expresses his view of the fluidity and interconnectedness of life, as well as gender. In 1983 he offered this mural, in a decolonizing gesture of reconciliation, to the people of Canada. Today, Androgyny is recognized as one of Morrisseau’s most significant works of art, and a reminder to Canadians of the enduring bond formed by an important gift. Visit wag.ca
