Hey there, time traveller!

For years we stocked up on basics and affordable trendy pieces while visiting other cities — envious that the locals had a coveted H&M store while lamenting that Winnipeg was still void of one.
We emailed H&M's corporate headquarters to open up shop here time and time again. Finally, after several rumours and false leads, the deal was finally sealed — H&M was coming to the 'Peg.
After waiting patiently for months, the retailer officially opened its doors Wednesday, bringing its trendy threads to fashion-seeking Winnipeg shoppers ready to reap the benefits of having an H&M in their hometown.
If you aren't familiar with the retailer (gasp!), H&M offers fashionable attire for women, men and kids at a really great price.
They also feature limited-edition designer collections at a slightly higher price point. Past collections by Lanvin and Karl Lagerfeld come to mind.
But back to our lovely location at Polo Park Shopping Centre. I can really think of no better time for the retailer to open up for business here. Most of us fashionistas are slowly putting away our light summer garb or covering it up with cosy sweaters and pashmina scarves, so naturally it makes sense to splurge on a few transition pieces to get us through fall.
One of the season's chic looks is to incorporate a mixture of different textiles -- satin, faux fur, lace, fuzzy knits and lace. For example, pair a slip dress in a demure hue with a chunky wrap and a pair of knee-high suede boots.
Or try rocking a satin cami with some lightweight flowy tapered leg pants topped with a denim or cropped wool jacket and accessorized with some chunky bangles and maybe a flop felt hat.
My personal fave for fall is a texturized loose fitted sweater with some cute shorts and a pair of booties -- ideal for taking you from the warm sunny day into a cool and crisp night without having to pop home for a wardrobe change.
And really, H&M is so affordable you may find you will score more than a few fabulous garments to keep you looking fashionably warm on these cool autumn days.
