A 20-year-old man sent to hospital in critical condition after being shot Friday evening has died.
Police officers arrived at the scene in the 500-block of Portage Avenue at around 6:25 p.m., and learned the shooting victim had already been rushed to the Health Sciences Centre in a private car, police said.
A police spokesman confirmed this morning that the man had died as a result of his upper body injuries.
Police said it appears the victim and a number of others were involved in a confrontation that led to the shooting.
An area around Portage Avenue and Young Street was taped off this morning, and officers remained on the scene.
The death marks Winnipeg's 10th homicide this year.
