Virtue may be its own reward, but an unexpected $500 is a blessing for a Winnipeg guy whose careers — bike courier and musician — aren’t exactly known for their fat paycheques.

"Most of the money will be gone as soon as I get it," says Matt Magura of the latest token of gratitude he’s received for finding and turning in $20,000 worth of misplaced bank deposits to the Assiniboine Credit Union last Tuesday.

The credit union presented him with a $50 gift certificate for Boston Pizza. Monday, G4S Cash Services — the company contracted by ACU to service the automated teller machine where Magura found the loot — topped it up with $500 cash.

Magura, a rider with First Choice Courier & Messenger by day and guitarist for local bluegrass-punk band The Magnificent 7s, says he’s going to spend his reward money on bike repairs and rent.

BORIS.MINKEVICH@FREEPRESS.MB.CA Matt Magura found and returned a large sum of money he found on top of an ATM machine on Kennedy Street. The Assiniboine Credit Union awarded him with a $50 pizza voucher for his honesty.
