Glendale receives new offer from Ice Edge for Coyotes

The City of Glendle issued a statement late Friday saying they have a revised Memorandum of Understanding from Ice Edge Holdings to purchase the Phoenix Coyotes and keep them in Glendale, Az.

"On Tuesday June 8, the Glendale City Council will consider for approval a revised Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) from Ice Edge Holdings to purchase the National Hockey League (NHL) Coyotes," the statement reads.

"Throughout this process, the city has always anticipated forwarding multiple potential agreements to the NHL by June 30, and the city has met that deadline. It is the NHL who will determine the final ownership of the team. This next step continues the city’s commitment of ensuring the Coyotes stay in Glendale for the remainder of their lease at Jobing.com Arena."

Glendale council held an emergency meeting to hear from city manager Ed Beasley on the status of negotiations with the potential owners of the Phoenix Coyotes.

Ice Edge COO Darryl Jones confirmed to the Free Press that his group is back at the bargaining table.

"We are back at the table on an exclusive basis, but there is no deal yet.," Jones said.

The Arizona Republic reports that Glendale Councilman Phil Lieberman believes the city’s agreement with Chicago sports mogul Jerry Reinsdorf’s group stands as well. Reinsdorf’s "MOU, as far as I know, is still good," he said late Friday.

John Kaites, a Valley lobbyist and member of Reinsdorf’ group, said a few weeks ago the agreement remains in place, the Republic reported.
