Police arrested an 18-year-old man and charged him with four counts of sex assaults after four city women were attacked recently.

Police said the arrest came after officers collected something a man left at a crime scene on May 13 and had it processed for DNA.

In the May attack, a 28-year-old woman was walking near Stapon Road and Reenders Drive when a man came up behind her and grabbed her upper and lower body, as well as simulated a sexual act.

Three more women — all out walking and jogging — were then groped this week by a man on a bike in separate incidents.

Police said they sent the evidence to an RCMP lab for processing and arrested the 18-year-old man hours after the most recent attack.

"We put a rush on this," said Winnipeg Police Service spokesman Jason Michalyshen.

He said members of the public should be pleased with the arrest.

This Tuesday, a 31-year-old woman was grabbed near Ness Avenue and Sackville Street.

Then on Wednesday, a 41-year-old woman was grabbed near Academy Road and Harrow Street.

And on Thursday, a suspect groped a 49-year-old woman near Wolseley Avenue and Camden Place.

The 18-year-old is now at the Remand Centre and is charged with four counts of sexual assault.

He is known to police.
