Winnipeg firefighters were kept hopping Thursday evening with a pair of fires that caused $700,000 in damages.

The call about a house fire in the 600 block of Redwood Avenue came in at 5:40 p.m. There were no injuries in the blaze, the cause of which is under investigation, but early reports are the house can’t be salvaged. Damage is estimated at $100,000.

Twenty minutes later, pumpers were called to a fire at a City of Winnipeg garage on Midland Street. The initial investigation has determined the blaze was accidental. Damage to the building and contents, which included half-tonne vehicles and grass cutting equipment, is estimated at $600,000.

No injuries were reported in either fire.
