The union representing Winnipeg firefighters is vowing to help NDP Health Minister Theresa Oswald defeat Gord Steeves in the upcoming provincial election.
The United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg issued a release today slamming Steeves’ decision to resign his St. Vital council seat and run as a Progressive Conservative candidate this fall in the provincial Seine River riding.
“Firefighters have always worked well with Coun. Steeves, however we are disappointed in this decision to run, as it is based on political opportunism. He is a lifelong liberal who is not being honest with the constituents of Seine River,” the UFFW said in a release.
“Gord Steeves, a Liberal supporter, is moving to the Conservative Party and this does not show the electorate of Seine River a true snapshot of his political leanings.”
Steeves is expected to announce his decision Friday. The UFFW urged him to reconsider and promised to work for Oswald.
