Winnipeg Rowing Club members Janine Hanson and Meghan Montgomery — along with their respective crews — each won a silver medal for Canada over the weekend at the World rowing championships in Bled, Slovenia.
In addition, WRC alumnus in 2004, Stesha Carle, rowed with the US team, and won a silver medal in the women’s quad. Hanson, in the women’s eight, finished second behind the United States, while Montgomery and her adaptive mixed four crew, finished second behind Great Britain.
Hanson’s crew also qualified their boat for the 2012 Olympics in London, while Montgomery’s crew qualified their boat for the 2012 Paralympics.
Also from the WRC, Kevin Kowalyk raced in the men’s four, capturing first in the B final, finishing 7th overall, and qualifying their boat for the 2012 Olympics, while WRC alumnus Emily Cameron raced in the women’s double, winning the C final, for 13th overall.
