Green-space advocates are calling for the public to weigh in again on the potential sale of seven city-owned golf courses.

Outdoor Urban Recreational Spaces (OURS) Winnipeg is holding its third public forum today to discuss the future of Kildonan Golf Course, one of the seven courses looking to be sold by the city.

OURS-Winnipeg said their main goal is to make sure that the spaces remain public green spaces and don’t get slated for private development. They said they want the city to do more consulting with the public before making a decision.

“The recent council vote on the water park at The Forks shows citizen involvement can make a difference. We demand citizen involvement,” said Ron Mazur, co-chair of the group, in a press release.

The previous two forums were held for residents in St. Vital and then for River Heights and Wolseley. Today’s forum looks to involve north Winnipeggers in the discussions.

Last year, the city asked for expressions of interest from developers for seven golf courses including Windsor Park and Canoe Club in St. Vital and Crescent Drive in Fort Garry.

Tonight’s forum will take place at 7 p.m. at the Atlantic Garden City United Church at 725 Atlantic ave.
