Some Winnipeg Jets fans are hoping to get one step closer — possibly as soon as this weekend — to their dream of owning season tickets.
The deadline to keep your spot on the team’s season-ticket waiting list is today.
It will cost hockey fans $100 to maintain their place in line but as long as they do so every year, the fees collected by the team will be credited toward an eventual season-ticket package.
Anil Kaul, who was one of 3,479 customers on last year’s waiting list (representing 8,000 potential seats), moved up “80 or 90” spots to 415, according to an email he recently received from the Jets.
He said he’s optimistic about getting the call in time for the 2014-15 season. (By that time, the three-year minimum commitment for several thousand seats in the upper bowl will have expired.)
“We’d like to move up more but at least it’s positive progress. With our mayor and other civic workers not buying tickets and not renewing maybe that will help us move up faster,” he said.
Mayor Sam Katz said earlier this week he turned in six pairs of Jets season tickets the city had purchased for the mayor’s office. He had promised to give them up in the wake of the provincial government’s crackdown on accepting free tickets to events.
“After three years, the honeymoon period might be over for some people or they might have realized they’ve bitten off more than they can chew (financially),” said Kaul.
Even waiting-list membership has its privileges. To make the wait more bearable, the Jets are giving these fans exclusive access to tickets made available on game days; a 15 per cent discount at Jets Gear stores; invitations to an exclusive “Wait List Open Practice” during the upcoming season; access to tickets posted for sale on the Jets’ SeatExchange; pre-sale access to the team’s skills competition and other community events; email notification for special MTS Centre offers; and pre-sale opportunities for the launch of the Jets’ inaugural season book.
