The Carlton Inn will meet the business end of a wrecking ball this summer.
The downtown hotel, a recent purchase of CentreVenture Development Corp., will meet its demise starting in August, all part of the expansion plan for the Winnipeg Convention Centre.
The 108-room hotel is right across St. Mary Avenue from the Convention Centre.
Ross McGowan, CEO of the downtown development agency, outlined a number of new initiatives at its annual general meeting today at the Metropolitan Entertainment Centre.
The 100 or so in attendance also heard about aggressive plans to convince more people to move downtown as well as an expression of interest going out this week for the St. Regis Hotel.
CentreVenture purchased the St. Regis on Smith Street last year, closed down its beverage room and removed all of the video lottery terminals.
