White smoke from a fire at the Brady Road landfill fogged up much of the south end of the city this morning.

Officials were first alerted to the fire near St. Norbert around 5 a.m., according to Steve West, manager of corporate communications for the city.

West said the smoke coming from the site was white, which was a better than if it were dark smoke.

“That’s usually a good sign that there’s nothing unburnt in the smoke. In other words, it’s not carrying any toxins,” he said.

Fire crews stayed on site until late afternoon monitoring the smoke at the landfill, but they haven’t confirmed what caused the fire.

There were no injuries or damages to buildings in the area.

The landfill remained open to the public all day while crews stood by to monitor the fire’s remains.
