A woman accused of kicking a police officer faces charges of aggravated assault.

Police were called to a stabbing Tuesday in the 700 block of Main Street.

An investigation revealed a dispute had occured between a man and woman, and the woman was accused of stabbing the man several times. She fled the scene and the authorities were called.

Police used the canine unit and the police helicopter to track the woman down, locating her in the area of Higgins Avenue and Austin Street.

When police tried to apprehend the woman, she became combative and kicked one of the officers in the lower body, police said.

Denise Clarkson, 45, faces charges of aggravated assault.
