The president of Winnipeg’s Saint-Boniface University will remain at the helm of the francophone institution for another five years.
The university’s board of governors announced Sophie Bouffard’s presidency was being renewed in a news release Wednesday.
Board chairwoman Lise Pinkos said a positive performance review, which was undertaken in the winter of 2023, led to the decision.

“(Bouffard) has forged strong relationships with our various educational partners and raised USB’s profile as a strategic investment for donors and funding bodies,” Pinkos said, noting she navigated the uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bouffard, who was appointed to the position in 2019, said she was delighted to receive a second mandate and “truly moved by this vote of confidence” in her leadership.
Over the last 20 years, the academic administrator has worked in various post-secondary roles in linguistic minority settings.
She served as president and vice-chancellor of the University of Sudbury and was the founding director of the University of Regina’s hub for French academic and research work.
Bouffard is the 45th President of USB. She is the second woman to assume the role since the institution, originally called St. Boniface College, was established in 1818.
