WINNIPEG — The owner of the steam engine at Assiniboine Park believes an arsonist is at work in the park.
Tim Buzunis said his train’s water tower was destroyed in a fire on Friday, adding it was the latest in a series of fires that have destroyed small structures at the park.
"This has been going on since February," Buzunis said, adding fires destroyed two storage sheds owned by the City of Winnipeg, another shed owned by a cricket group, and one of his own storage sheds.
Buzunis said police have told him that witnesses have seen a male, between ages of 14 and 18 years, riding a bicycle away from the fires, adding he believes the same person is responsible for all the fires.
"He tried to burn down my ticket booth, there have been grass fires and there was a fire at the Leo Mol garden," Buzunis said.
"I want the public to know what’s happening here and to keep any eye out for this guy," Buzunis said.
